Linda Zenone: It is Well With Her Soul
Linda has been a caregiver for most of her life, starting out as a teenager working in a nursing home as a nurse’s aide. She eventually got her degree in nursing and enjoyed a fulfilling career for 20 years before she had to retire due to a bad back. She continued on as a non-medical companion/caregiver and finally decided it was time to start sharing some of her most rewarding experiences via pen and paper. She has always loved to write and figured it was time to see where it would take her.
She wrote her very first story, “It Is Well With My Soul” several years ago, after a very touching day spent with her 88-year-old client, Mae. It was a day full of trials and triumphs for Linda, and somehow Mae was the center of it all. This woman, who had been unresponsive from the day Linda began caring for her, had suddenly come to life all because of a home-cooked meal Linda had prepared for her...or was it because of the concern she had when Linda locked herself out of her car?
The day had started out well and Linda was so pleased to see Mae coming out of her shell, but when she got down to the parking lot and inadvertently locked herself out of the car, things took a turn for the worst. She ran back upstairs to Mae’s to borrow a coat hanger to try to get the door open and asked a neighbor to help, but neither one of them had any luck. She finally had to call a locksmith, which she really couldn’t afford, but it was the only way. When she went back upstairs to return the hanger, this dear old woman, who had barely ever gotten out of her chair, told Linda she was so concerned she was going to walk down to the parking lot to see if she was alright!
On her way home, the song, “It is Well With My Soul” started to play on the radio. As she listened to the song, Linda began to realize how her dark cloud had somehow brought a little ray of sunshine into her client’s life that day. Instead of being upset about her trying day and about having to spend money she couldn’t afford, Linda suddenly realized everything was indeed, well with her soul. We just never know when God can use something we go through to bring good into someone else’s life, and in return bring good into ours.
