"The Eagle has Landed" for Edward Louis

Writer Edward Louis shares his touching and true-life story of a "safe arrival call" made from the other side.

During his marriage, Edward traveled frequently to foreign countries on business.  "Before the advent of cell phones and email, personal communication from these locales was often inconvenient and always expensive," he said  "Instead of having a long telephone conversation relaying the day’s events, a brief “safe arrival” call would have to suffice.  I would call my wife, Wendy, and recite the famous words said by Neil Armstrong in 1969 during the Apollo 11 moon landing: “The Eagle has landed.”  With that simple phrase, she would know that I had gotten to my destination as planned and everything was okay."

Years later, on the day of my wife's funeral, my sister and I saw an eagle circling our home... I knew it was her sign to me that "the eagle had landed."

Edward Louis is a widower and retired executive.  He is a father of three and grandfather of four.  He enjoys spending time with his family, solving Sudoku puzzles and traveling via plane and cruise ship.
