Elaine Dugas Shea stirs the soul with "Sunshine Chair Circle"

“Music stirs the soul and I am no exception, but who knew a poem would be born of a music ministry activity at a nursing home?” Elaine says revealing the inspiration behind her contribution to Hope Whispers.  It reads in part:

“The human face shines on, muscles and

Skin work together traveling

Back in time, everyone young again

Arms lift in praise feeling the swing”

“My mother Gertrude is a resident at the Commander Nursing Center in Florence, South Carolina. She has always loved music, but because of advanced dementia, she is not as much aware of musical sound and energy. Nonetheless, when I visit her, I wheel her into any of the featured musical events and have found them to lift like a spiritual balloon. People with all sorts of age-related afflictions travel back to their Sunday School days, song book words return and move them beyond the music.” she continues. “I can't explain how wonderful these events truly are; all I can do is write my words on a napkin while singing along. Funny thing is I wasn't raised with the same song book, but am learning to love and feel the words as well as carry the tunes...”
